How much water should you drink a day

Drink 8 glasses of water myth

Spring season has just finished and it is a transition period to summer. In this transitional season, our body needs and requirements also change. Especially when it comes to the matter of drinking water. In winter you drink less and when it is the start of summer everyone is hyperconscious about how much water should you drink a day? OR how much water is recommended daily?

I am sure you must hear of 8 glasses of water a day, that you need to drink eight glasses of water a day. Well, it is just a myth, not a scientifically proven theory.

Another common thought is you have to drink half of your body weight in ounces. So, if I'm 200 pounds that's a hundred ounces. A glass is approximately is eight-ounces which means twelve and a half glasses of water daily. That's a lot of water! The answer is no, you don’t have to take this much water.

Here are 5 more myths about water.

1-     60% of the body is water

No, it's not true. In fact, zero percent of your body is water, not one milli-litter of your body is pure water. It's all electrolyte fluids. Blood, urine, sweat, tears, bile juice, gastric juice and so all these fluids are electrolytes. That's minerals, sodium, potassium, calcium and a lot of other stuff in these fluids. It's not just pure water so that's kind of a falsity.

2-     The body doesn't know when it's thirsty

It does know when you are thirsty, you can perceive thirst, hunger, hot, and cold temperature. You can perceive a lot of things you have 52 perceptions of perceiving a lot of stuff so that's false.

3-     Water flushes out the fat. You need to drink more water to lose weight

There's never been one person that lost even an ounce of fat by drinking more water it's a myth. You can't lose weight by drinking more water because fat is fat soluble. It's not water-soluble it doesn't dissolve by pouring more water onto it. It's not going to happen. Try this, take a slab of fatty bacon, pour water and shake it up. See if it dissolves? NO!

4-     Water flushes out toxins

Again, toxins are fat-soluble. They're not water-soluble and that would be like pesticides, insecticides, herbicides, and drugs. They're all fat soluble. They're not water soluble so it's not going to flush anything out. It's going to get stuck in the fat so drinking more water is not going to flush those out. Drinking more water will only stress your kidneys and lead to damage.

5-     Water helps dry skin

That is not true, dry skin is a deficiency of vitamin A and that's in the skin, eyes, and dry mouth.  Your body will dry out when it doesn't have the oils in the fat, not the water. Same thing with your joints. Your joints are lubricated and your skin is lubricated and it will look young when you have oil and fat but it's not water. The people that drink the most water actually are the most dehydrated because of the difference in electrolytes.

There's a condition called hyponatremia and which is a condition where you can die from drinking too much water. Because it's going to flush out all the electrolytes and the cells are going to swell. Cells have no electrolytes to mobilize the fluid. Even your brain will swell you can even have a coma, a heart attack, enlarged liver, seizures and so all these things can come by drinking an excessive amount of water.

Final question – how much water is too much?

Also, how much water should you drink a day? It is a common question too. Well, every single body is unique. Your body requirements may be slightly different to the others. Your body adjusts the amount of water by itself. If you drink less, you'll pee less, if you drink more, you'll pee more. Your body is always trying to maintain the natural balance.

So, the final answer is – make sure you only drink when you're thirsty and if you have someone pushing this water on you just go ahead and share this article with them. Stay hydrated but not over flooded your body.
